ORGANISERS of the prestigious Tour de Farce cycle race are considering how to save the event following revelations that two unnamed cyclists have tested negative for performance enhancing drugs.
It has been alleged that officials were aware of the non-use of illegal substances as early as last week and had attempted to remove the competitors from the race by having them mowed down by a television vehicle.
The scandal is likely to jeopardise future sponsorship of the event as a number of major pharmaceutical companies have already withdrawn their support for the iconic race.
A spokesman for the Stewards' Committee stated: 'The tests are inconclusive and a request for further samples has been submitted.'
