England's 2nd Test superhero Kevin Pietersen has admitted that he threw away his wicket after scoring 227 runs when he saw a spectator in the crowd tucking into an exceptionally tasty-looking burger.
England were on 568 when the burly right-hander spied the fan with the burger oozing cheese and ketchup, on the deep midwicket boundary. He decided that enough was enough, and clubbed Xavier Doherty's next delivery towards Katich who took the catch. Pietersen then sprinted off the pitch in the direction of the burger hut, raising his bat as he went.
England declared on 620 for 5, before Australia commenced their second innings 375 runs behind.
Said Pietersen:
"I was starving! I saw this bloke slavering over his burger, so I aimed for him. I fell short, but we already had enough runs on the board."
Australian captain Ricky Ponting said:
"We couldn't get KP shifted from the crease, so I planted some fat bloke out in the stands with a big burger to distract him. It worked."
