It's just been confirmed that Frank Bruno, former heavyweight champion, is to come out of retirement to fight Chelsea midfield star Frank Lampard in Dubai. The fight is being billed as a tribute to the late BBC boxing commentator Harry Carpenter, who sadly died recently.
When we say 'sadly' we don't mean that Harry Carpenter was sad when he died, we mean that we were sad. We quite liked Harry Carpenter.
Anyway, Bruno v Lampard - it should be quite a match-up, the subtle skills and artistry of a visionary midfield exponent of the beautiful game against a man who might be a bit past his best but still packs a punch like a mule.
It's anticipated that Lampard will keep it tight early on, and then push on with increasing ferocity as his ageing opponents stamina gets used up, whereas Frank Bruno is expected to try to punch Lampard in the head as hard as he possibly can, right from the starting bell.
Insiders tell us that the cornermen will be Lionel Blair, for Bruno, and comedian Michael McIntyre for Frank Lampard, with The One Show presenter Christine Bleakley acting as the cuts 'man' and Olympic 110 metre hurdles champion Colin Jackson as the referee.
The fight will consist of 15x3 minute rounds, like they used to in the old days. Tickets are on sale now on the internet at www.inyourdreams.con
