It has been confirmed that Alan Shearer is due to make a shock return to football, not as a BBC pundit but as Newcastle United's famous number 9 striker.

The announcement was made just days after Obafemi Martins completed his move to Wolfsburg, after the two clubs agreed a £9m fee for the Nigerian striker.

Shearer said "I will do whatever it takes to get Newcastle back into the Premiership and if that involves me coming out of retirement to play for the club then so be it, I still have plenty of goals left in me yet"

Martins netted 28 goals for Newcastle out of 88 appearances and Toon fans hope that Shearer, who scored 148 goals for Newcastle can only add to that tally in next seasons Championship.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
