Today, people all across Spain tried to claim that it was a real nation, to try and boost morale for the Euro 08 final against Deutschland.
As celebrations broke out in Madrid at Spain's semi-final victory, thousands of Basques let off guns in a their own celebrations, making sure that their bullets hit Spanish policemen, and Catalonians in Barcelona held a day's mourning at the wonderful news.
Speaking from San Sebastian, Basque politician Esker Avezvoudika said: 'The day we even allow a Spaniard to play for our football teams is the day we stop shooting Spanish policemen!' And Senor Generallissimo Franco added: 'Basques, Catalonians, Celts, we hate them all! I wonder if I can get a bet on Germany?'
Humour is down in Wall Street, well it's never been there, but European stock markets were laughing into their schnapps at the news of the Spanish attempting to actually win something. Shares in British Pirates PLC were up again, and Sarcazi di Portugale Inc held steady at whatever their friends in London set it to.
