Walking Pace Football Comes To The Netherlands

Steve McClaren the one time Hull City midfield legend and failed England football manager, has shocked the world of football as well as those close to him, by being appointed manager of Dutch side FC Twente.

FC Twente are little known in this country and one would assume the Dutch nation know very little about Mclaren.

McClaren, known for his famous "walking pace" football is thought by many England fans to have done more to reverse the development of the national team, than even Kevin Keegan or Glen Hoddle managed to do.

Dutch football is going through a golden period in its history and its national side are playing with a level of flair, skill and breathtaking pace, that may well take them far.

What Mr McClaren makes of this kind of football is not clear but experts are not expecting FC Twente to bring this kind of game to the champions league next season, a more cautious approach is expected and Mr McClaren could well be seeking work in this country before the season is over should things not go well.

Experts have been wrong before and we wish Mr Mclaren good luck with his "totally football-less football" game plan. Many in this country struggled with the concept but the laid back nation that is the Netherlands may be more prepared to embrace the Mc Claren methodology.

If bookmakers are to be believed, there is more chance of Hull City winning the premier league than FC Twente the champions league, but this is still more likely than Mr McClaren ever again being England manager. With a straight face one bookmaker contacted invited any potential punters to just "send the money and write any price you like on the slip"

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
