A team of Rudy's handed the Fighting Irish their fifth straight loss at home on Saturday after they defeated them in triple overtime, 46-44. Rudy quarterback, Rudy Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada lead his team with 365 total yards on offense, throwing a 25-yard TD pass to Rudy Campbell on the first play of the third overtime. He found him again for the 2 point conversion.

Notre Dame (1-8) came back with a 5-yard TD run by Travis Thomas, but failed the 2-point conversion after defensive lineman, Rudy Walsh and linebacker, Rudy Spencer tackled Thomas short of the end zone.

Navy coach Rudy Shembecker had the following to say about his players, "They're worried about here and now. These kids are 17. You think they're worrying about 43 years? They're a bunch of Rudy's!"

With Saturday's victory, Navy, a team of Rudy's broke a 43-game losing streak. The last time Navy beat the Irish was when Rudy Staubach was quarterback for the midshipmen in 1963. They won that game 35-14. Since then, the Irish have beaten up on the Rudy's.

Other Rudy's in the line-up were:

  • Defensive End, Rudy Adams, 5'9" 175llbs.
