LOS ANGELES (Lumberg) - Former Cincinnati Reds player Pete Rose is wagering that Barry Bonds will not hit a home run during the upcoming series against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

"My gut instinct tells me that I have a better chance of being reinstated in Major League Baseball than Barry Bonds has of hitting a home run this week," said Rose. "Those are pretty good odds."

As Wayne Gretzky's wife, Janet Jones Gretzky, kept an eye on his luggage for him, Mr. Rose made the $5,000 future wager with his favorite bookie, Ron Peters. "Better make it $10,000!" Jones Gretzky reminded him.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
