SAN FRANCISCO (Lumberg) - The 'Hand of God' repeatedly made an appearance on Wednesday, preventing Barry Bonds from hitting any further home runs.
As he celebrated his birthday against the visiting Atlanta Braves, Bonds grounded out in the second inning, hit a single in the fourth, struck out in the seventh, popped out with two runners on base in the ninth, and struck out again in the tenth. Each time God roundly smote the hitter's attempt to connect for a homer.
The steroid-connected Bonds remains stuck at 753 home runs, two shy of Hank Aaron's all-time career record of 755.
A spokesman for 'The Almighty' said that his boss loves baseball as much as the next guy and hates to see Bonds in this current position poised to usurp Aaron in the record books.
