Amazing comeback kid, Jimmy White, shocked the Wembley Arena last night after destroying John Virgo in a tough 19 frame battle. White, 17, found incredible form to see off the knowledgeable Virgo, 23, and win the World Championship title for the first time.
The match went down to the wire as White struggled early on against a Virgo 'whirlwind', and at one stage was 7 frames to 2 down. However, Jimmy White started his fightback with style, clearing up the 10th frame with a break of 171.
After the match, officials confirmed that the match was excellent, but were sorrily mistaken about the identity of the two players involved.
In other Snooker news, officials at the World Championship finals warned spectators of a 'mix-up' between the coffee machine and the cleaning utensils cupboard. A newsletter announced: "We regret to inform spectators that our coffee dispensing machines were actually dispensing Mr Sheen polish. Any effects from drinking this deadly cocktail will dissipate within the week."
