In a press conference ahead of the Spain v Italy final on sunday, UEFA president Michel Platini told journalists about his grand plan for the Euro 2020 tournament.
While Istanbul in Turkey was considered favourites to host the event, it appears that has been complicated by the fact the city has also planned to bid for the Olympics.
Former French international Platini revealed that instead of Istanbul, and instead of 12 or 13 cities around Europe hosting the finals, instead he has accepted an offer from cash rich Quatar to host the tournament. "Eet ees perfect, as the stadiums are being built for the 2022 World Cup, so we just ask them to finish a leetle beet early" said Platini.
When probed by journalists about Quatar not being in Europe, Platini opined "Zee boundaries are opening up - Europe is expanding all the time, plus it would be wrong to victimise Quatar for their location. They are an expanding country and have offered us lots of cash. Maybe 2020 in Quatar, 2024 in America and 2028 in Space!".
Another question asked how the fans would travel to games to which Platini replied 'there are lots of budget airlines and boats they can use'. Despite the cash injection and certainty of travel arrangements, Platini was unsure of the pronunciation of 'Quatar' suggesting it is more 'guitar' than 'Quater'.
Michel Platini is French and 5'10".
