As you can see, the pygmy shrews are multiplying at an astonishing rate. A whole sub-species now live in his left armpit

A rare species of pygmy shrew once thought extinct has been discovered thriving in the warmth and safety of comedy actor Robin Williams' hair.

The Mork and Mindy actor came to the attention of the scientific community when a topless beach photo of him was posted on a celebrity website.

"It was a real eureka moment", says Professor Stanislow Gubbins of Shrewsbury University, England, "I was just surfing for porn shots of celebrities when I saw this tiny creature peering out from a mass of hair. Very exciting indeed!".

On closer inspection the photograph revealed that a whole family of lesser-spotted pygmy shrews were living amongst the hairs on Williams' back - up to a dozen fully grown adults and 30 or more infants.

Mr. Williams has agreed to let the scientists take samples of his body hair for analysis at their laboratory.

"We're very excited about the prospect of finding other forms of life. A dodo or something equally wonderful could still exist in there somewhere. Robin's hair is a real Noah's Ark for science".
