Cyberspace - (Ass Mess): Google Maps: It's a marvel of modern technology until wee little flaws emerge that ask the intrepid cyberspace browser exactly who is taking the proverbial piss.
In a Google Maps request for directions from New York, NY to Paris, France the search engine's new internet travel service offers inimical advice that's clearly meant for Olympic athletes of truly heroic proportions.
"The first twenty two lines of directions are just fine," said a travel writer following the trail.
"I could easily deal with 'Head southwest on Broadway toward Warren St' all the way to ' Merge onto I-278 E via the ramp to I-87 N/Bronx/Upstate N Y/New England'.
"Then all the way to advice line #19 instructing 'Take exit 24 A-B-C on the left toward I-93 N/Concord NH/S Station/I-93 S/Quincy' it all seemed fine.
"And the next three instruction items were pretty crystal clear: '20. Merge onto Atlantic Ave 0.8 mi
3 mins 21. Turn right at Central St 0.1 mi 22. Turn right at Long Wharf 0.1 miles.
"But when ya get to No 23 this is what Google Maps tells you if you want to get to Paris:
'23. Swim across the Atlantic Ocean 3,462 mi
29 days 0 hours'
The prosecution rests.
