A big Dude Ranch near Phoenix paid me to come over to America and 'Ride a bronco' and do an article on their ranch for the British public.
The bronco was about 15 years old and tired.
Afterwards, I - like millions of people - went to see Grand Canyon.
It sure is a big hole - very pretty - sedimentary layers of wedding cake rock - in many colors. it used to have clean air and you could see for miles.
Now with the pollution from Phoenix and Los Angeles, it has beautiful light purple clouds veiling the distance. Sort of Romantic in a polluted way. America has had real Environmental Protection since 1955.
Some of the Rocks jut out into the canyon - and on one a woman was hitting gold balls down into the Canyon. It seemed a little nutty, so I asked her what the point was. She replied she was bored and just trying to improve her swing. Her husband was nearby and oohing and aah-ing as he took photos.
So far, the people taking donkey rides down into the Canyon haven't reported any golf ball injuries.
She and her husband were from Los Angeles - home to many fruit-cake type people. They are strong competition for the city folk of New York. Thank heavens, London is so Safe and Sane.
