Peter Duckling, of Berwick Hills Middlesbrough wanted so much to give his 8 yr. old daughter the birthday gift of a lifetime.
His daughter, Takwanita, had wanted a pony ever since she had heard of ponies. She had 'My Little Pony' Ponies and all the accessories and thought that, that would be as close she would get to a 'real' pony. She gently combed their manes with the tiny combs that came with them. She was a 'child obsessed'.
Her dad, Peter was 'in bits' because he so wanted to get her a pony for her birthday one day. Her mam didn't give a damn coz she was either at Bingo or down the pub chuggin' 'em back with her mates.
Peter was, as usual, home alone (apart from Takwanita), leafing through The Teeside Times - one night, when he came across an ad. that warmed the cockles of his heart...someone wanted a good home for a 2 year old Great Dane. FREE...so he jumped at the chance, called the number and arranged to go around to the address the following morning in order to meet the couple who were looking for a home for their beloved pet.
Apparently they were moving to Spain, like half of the Brits. to start a new life, and couldn't take 'Tiny' with them as they were going to be starting their new life in a one-bedroomed apartment.
Peter was delighted that the couple agreed to trust their beloved pet 'Tiny' over to his care.
Tiny was 'delivered' to Peter's home, by the couple, on the morning of Takwanita's 8th birthday. Her mom was in bed with a terrible hangover so didn't 'get up' for the surprise.
Peter told Takwanita that her biggest wish had at last come true and he led her towards the back garden.
Takwanita took one look at Tiny, who was, by then, sporting a small saddle and reins. Takwanita ran screaming towards Tiny and jumped on his back. She was indeed the happiest little 8 yr. old on the housing estate.
Peter didn't tell her that Tiny was really a dog and Takwanita rode him proudly around the neighbourhood, showing off to the neighbourhood kids.
No-one told her she was riding a Great Dane and not a pony because she lived on a part of the housing estate where the average IQ of adults and offspring was 25.
Takwanita is now 35. Tiny is long-gone but Takwanita moved to the country and started a Pony Sanctuary for 'retired ponies' (Great Danes).
She relies on charitable donations to keep the Pony Sanctuary going for the sake of the poor old ponies/Great Danes.
Some of her 'ponies' are not so old. Many of the owners who bring them to Takwanita admit they bought them as pups and had no ideas just how BIG they would grow to be and find they, eventually, have no room in their homes for them.
