The Who's Pete Townshend is releasing his memoirs this week.
One of the most surprising news to come out of his book is the revelation that he wrote a tribute to Scottish Premier League club Dundee United under legendary manager and chairman Jim McLean, who was chairman and ruled United with an iron hand from 1988 to 2000.
The tribute is called "Substitute"
Here it is :
"You think I control management duty
But someone's Harry Corbett and I'm just Sooty
I'm a substitute for another guy
He's old and bald and sits on high
Decisions are made in other places
I'm only here on a temporary basis...yeh
Substitute - me for him
Substitute - his name's Jim
Substitute - must be obeyed
At least I'll get my mortgage paid
I work here with one hand tied behind my back
The only certain thing is that I'll get the sack
Now you dare to say I run the show
I've got no power, I've got no dough
The simple things you see are all complicated
Not all of us were sad to get relegated
Substitute - him for me
Substitute - that's reality
Substitute - he's to the fore
