In a revolutionary change of direction just before the Premier League takes an international break, Carlo Ancelotti has introduced innertubes into Chelsea's training.
The Italian feels that Sunday's game against top-four rivals Manchester City is the right time to introduce the system, so the effects can be discussed over the following two weeks.
A former Chelsea player and member of the coaching staff not called Ray Wilkins said: "This is a fascinating development for the football club.
"Most of these young men are familiar with socks and baked beans - some of them may even own goldfish.
"But inflatable rubber innertubes? It's revolutionary - something only an Italian could have come up with.
"Sir Alex and his boys will need to be on their guard now - especially with the crucial Champions League ties coming up.
"I can't wait for Sunday's game against City. We should see some fireworks - or at least hear some bursting noises."
