Do Not TOUCH! Not allowed by the Food Nazis!

I understand, it is for our own good. You lecture perfect strangers in markets to get them to realize they have a choice in the food they buy. Really? We have a choice? I would have never realized that unless you had told me in the most patronizing fashion, which you probably thought was you being nice.

I had wanted to tell you where you could go with your "advice" but my children were present. The only reason you had started talking to us was because my son would not smile at you. He seems to have a real good sense of people. I will now gage my impression of people on whether he smiles at them or not.

You had then told me that your Granddaughter would not eat anything you or your daughter would give her to eat. I said I had a hard time feeding my daughter anything but tortilla chips. You then said I have a choice, I could choose to take those away. I tried to say that my family would like to eat these delicious chips in moderation. You then gave me a look like I had just called you something that I would not say in front of my children. I then said that tortilla chips are not that bad and their ingredients are basically corn and salt (actual ingredients: ground corn treated with lime, water, vegetable oil, sea salt). The balk I got from that and then the quiet insult about my weight (which is not that bad) left me speechless.

With whatever dignity I had left, I said "thank you for your opinion" and walked away. That was for my children, but if they were not present there were many things I would have loved to tell you. Many of which include that there could not be enough middle fingers in the world (thanks Facebook) to tell you how I feel about your "advice".

Now to "food nazis" everywhere, don't worry, you are getting your way. Trans fats are being eliminated from processed foods, and in the reformulation of these products the companies are deciding to use healthier ingredients. So please, give a mother a break, and try to understand. We are trying to feed our children healthy food, but we also live in the real world and actually try to enjoy food.

And to the Lady (term used loosely) who insulted me in Trader Joe's: let your Granddaughter try tortilla chips, and you might want to try some of TJ's vanilla ice cream, it might make you less grumpy and judgmental.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
