image for Dynamo Moscow - A Short History
Someone forgot to tell this dissident he could leave

Dynamo Moscow are one of the most famous names in European football. Just after the second world war they visited England and played against Chelsea, thus providing an early link between Russia and the West London team.

Despite the long, proud history Dynamo Moscow are about as popular as a dissident at Putin's datcha. Could this be that Dynamo Moscow are the team of the KGB?

When the commentator refers to a particular player as a midfield general, he isn't joking. The chances are he has a file on all his opponents and their families. It makes challenging for the ball something of a problem.

People have fought back. Dynamo no longer command much local support. It's difficult to round people up. Playing in front of an empty stadium, Dynamo have ceased to be the force they once were. The locals favour Spartak, CSKA (the army team) or Lokomotiv. Dynamo cannot compete.

So what does the future hold? The KGB's successors. the FSB, are very much in evidence in the capital. Inside the corridors of power the old KGB still holds sway. Dynamo could return.

Next time there is a knock at the door it could be to take me away to the Dynamo stadium.

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
