A Florida Hanging Chad or a lynching

Funny story written by isabar

I don't know about you, but for me wearing a noose is never politically correct, not even on Halloween.

It's 9:30 PM on Halloween. The poll workers have counted the totals for the day (over 1700 votes), cleaned up the room and got ready for the next day of early voting. One of the few white pollworkers pulls a noose around his neck and sticks a name tag on his chest with "CHAD" handwritten on it. He tries to get a reaction from his fellow pollworkers (most are African-American), but he's met with blank stares. He walks up to me. "You get it?" he says pulling up the noose behind his neck, sticking his tongue out and pointing to the nametag.

"Yeah, clever," I say "but insensitive."

"Why?" He looks clueless, but then he seems to get it. "Uh, I get it. Black presidential candidate, right?"

I nod, but there's much more than that I don't say because I don't think I have to.

Any white young man should know wearing a noose is reminiscent of someone re-enacting a lynching, particularly in a room filled with African-Americans.

Don't you think wearing a noose for fun is never be right, under any circumstances, black candidate or not, blacks present or not? Am I being too sensitive? I can help but think our country is too young, the stigma of rampant racism is still too fresh.

I have the feeling this young man didn't mean to inflict pain or harm anyone. He thought he was being clever. He learned his lesson, I hope.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
