Tristane Banon said she didn't steal candy from the store, but now says she did steal some "LaVie candy tins" from a grocery store in Marseille, France after she was caught on surveillance video.
Tristane said she lied because she didn't want her mother to become furious with her.
She also admitted to stealing money from her mother's purse to buy ice cream at the same grocery store.
At first she tried to blame a Flemish-speaking tourist that was in the grocery store when she was caught eating the "LaVie candy tin" outside the store. She told the store clerk that the man had forced his finger down her pocket and then he pushed the candy inside of her.
Lying is bad, but when she lies about other people it is even more serious because she is destroying the lives of other human beings.
At the beginning, amid a frenzy of media attention, she then vowed to sue the tourist, but reversed her position after the store owner reviewed the video and called her mother.
Tristane's mother told reporters that Tristane has a history of telling lies and it's not the first time she has been caught stealing.
