AMC have confirmed Jon Hamm, the star of their award winning show, Mad Men, has quit after a sensational bust up with show creator Matthew Weiner.

Hamm claims, 'Weiner and his fellow writing staff depict me week after week, sleeping with countless beautiful women, dazzling my colleagues and superiors at work and drinking and smoking to my hearts content...but something is missing'

Hamm's departure has thrown the show into disarray and cast doubt on it's return for Season Five, due for 2011.

Weiner released the statement,' I made that boy everything he is, he owes me. I made him and I can destroy him in this town. No-one is bigger than show'

According to AMC insiders, Vincent Kartheiser (who plays Don's rival and sometimes friend, Pete Campbell) has tested for a more major role, but he cannot get past the first cigarette in screen tests.

A radical suggestion by one AMC executive is to ditch the format completely and introduce Elisabeth Moss (Peggy) and Christina Hendricks (Joan Harris) starting their own female agency, 'Mad Women'....
