Footballers aren't usually too well known for their intellectual prowess, but there is always an exception to the rule, and Burnley FC defender Clarke Carlisle is one of those exceptions. An outstanding one!
Yesterday, Clarke Carlisle won his second appearance on Countdown, the Channel 4 words and numbers quiz which isn't as popular as it was before Richard Whiteley packed it in due to his untimely death, and Carol Vaudeville quit.
Clarke Carlisle, who won the title of 'Britain's Brainiest Footballer' in an unrelated TV show said that Countdown was an intense experience, but much easier than facing Didier Drogba of a Saturday afternoon.
Carlisle even got the infamously difficult 'Countdown Conundrum' word in a record breaking 0.8 seconds. The word appeared on the show as: ATDEERLEG and he correctly unscrambled it to the answer: RELEGATED
In the numbers round, when he asked for two from the top and the rest from underneath, a wag from the audience called out:
"Oo er missus!"
Like the late Frankie Howerd.
Burnley will shut down when Countdown comes on, until Clarke Carlisle gets beat.
More as we get it.
