As the great British public suddenly take a backwards step and start to seriously examine the evidence put before them by the tabloids and the internet, a steady sea-change in opinion appears to be gathering momentum.
People appear to be asking themselves if Cheryl Cole nee Tweedy could really be as squeaky clean and innocent as she has been portrayed.
With the benefit of hindsight, many are coming to realise that this is the same Cheryl who appeared in court accused of a frenzied assault on a lavatory attendant and who might just possibly be cynically manipulating the media in order to present herself as the victim of the piece.
