America's king of controversy has taken up the Atkins challenge in an attempt to gain more credibility for his work. In a statement, Moore said, "It's not easy being a serious director with my image. When people see me, they expect my films to be the general "laugh a minute" fare that is usually associated with chubby people in Hollywood".
Moore has been on the Atkins diet for three weeks now, and has lost 65lbs. His medical team has warned him that if he continues to lose weight so rapidly, he could become completely 2D by fall. Moore rubbished this, saying, "I'm in control of my weight loss, I know when to stop. You don't know what a thrill it is for me to be able to tie my own shoelaces for the first time in 22 years. It had been so long, I had to learn the whole ‘bunny ears' thing again".
Moore now feels that his slimline look has made him a more believable filmmaker and earned him comparisons with George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.
