Late Star Trek actor James Doohan, famous for playing chief engineer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott, will have his ashes blasted into outer space from a launch site in Southern New Mexico. Doohan, who died last year, wanted to at least go to outer space in death, though he could not make it there in life.
The actor's family paid to have part of his remains to be sent into orbit and scattered as part of a payload to be launched later this month. 200 other people's ashes will be sent on the same launch.
Environmentalists are upset at the prospect of littering outer space. David Dweeb of Greenpeae said, "We've already destroyed our planet. We've got golfballs shot willy nilly on the moon. Now we're emptying the vaccuum cleaner in outer space!"
When news of the launch reached Keith Richards, he wanted to know if there were any extra ashes that he could have.
