A new game based on the hugely-popular 'Game of Thrones' HBO TV series, is evidence enough, says one man who is an expert on the weather, that winter is fast approaching, and will soon be upon us.
'Winter Is Coming' is a spin-off online game that is quite an experience in itself, and includes all manner of exciting wintry themes for players aged all the way from 1 to 99, but not older than that.
Players battle against incessant snowfall, from blizzard-like Arctic conditions, to soft flurries of snow with flakes drifting gently to the ground. There are biting winds that chill players to the bone, and the days are cold, dark and damp.
There are very few daylight hours, which can be disorienting if you work in a windowless office.
Players have to contend with freezing nights and frozen toes, frost, ice, rain and hail, robins and reindeer, and one part of the game known as the Festive Shopping Period, which will strike terror into the hearts of the uninitiated.
All of the above, says the man, Brian Mance, points to the inevitability of winter being "just around the corner". He said:
"All of the above points to the inevitability of winter being just around the corner."
