Two down-on-their-luck DJ's today must be thinking there really is a Christmas Fairy or Santa or something along those lines.
Because in an attempt to recreate the glory days of BBC Radio One, controller of BBC Radio, Jimmy Hatchette, has announced the surprise comeback of Mike 'Smashie' Smash and Dave 'Nicey' Nice, to host a new Breakfast show on the ailing station.
Hatchette told The Spoof:
"Since we dumped Smashie and Nicey the station has been steadily going down the tubes. Wogan, on Radio 2, pisses all over us and Moyles just can't cut it.
I see this as firm move to win back defectors and to see us back where we belong"
Interviewed on their dilapidated houseboat, moored in London's Little Venice, the duo were jubilant at the news.
"This is totally pop-tabulous" smiled Smashie, whilst Nicey made his famous fader pushing gesture and told our reporter:
"B-b-baby! You just ain't seen nuthin' yet!"
Times have been tough for the once popular duo since getting dropped by the station several years ago. Smashie went into rehab following massive drug problems whilst Nicey was rumoured to be sleeping rough under Vauxhall Bridge for a time.
But 2007 will see the dream team back where they belong and Hatchette hopes his faith in the pair will pay quick dividends. He added:
"If all goes well and audience figures start to pick up, we may even consider paying them a few quid in a year or so"
The Spoof says: Well done boys and Pop-mungous best wishes to you both.
