LOUISVILLE, Kentucky - The 139th running of The Kentucky Derby was run on a field that was muddier than the town scenes in the western AMC TV series Hell On Wheels.
Orb who was favored at 6 to 1 odds started the race in 19th place out of 19 horses but his jockey, Joel "Vamoose" Rosario knew that he could easily move up to 17th place without too much problem.
After getting all of that damn mud in his face and in Orb's face Joel decided to giddy up like hell and in no time he ended up passing 15 of the other 18 horses.
Rosario said that as they were nearing the finish line he whispered in Orb's ear that if he won there would be an extra helping of oats in it for him.
Well that was all it took for the oats-loving bay horse to gallop across the finish line first.
Charles "The Fat Bro" Barkley was in attendance at the Kentucky Derby and was dressed in a pink suit looking a lot like the Pink Panther.
He caused quite a stir when it was revealed that he had bet $100,000 on Orb to win. Orb won and paid $12.80 to one which meant that Barkley won $1,280,000.
When Charles was asked why he had picked Orb, he smiled and told the reporter that Orb spelled backwards if Bro. So he said that he took that as a sign to bet on the horse whose name backwards is an African-American name.
SIDENOTE. Barkley said that he will take some of the money and use it to make bets on the NBA playoffs. When asked who he plans on betting on he grinned and said that he is going to bet a bunch of it on the team that Manu GIN-O-BILI is on...The San Antonio Spurs.
