Michael Phelps, who recently won 8 Olympic Gold Medals at the Chinese games, has been signed to endorse over 52 products in television commercials and print advertising. He will be featured on boxes of Wheaties, in ads for soft drinks, in spots for athletic shoes (even though you don't wear shoes in a swimming pool), and for fast food restaurants.
Phelps, however, has refused to endorse products for "natural male enhancement."
In an interview at the Closing Ceremonies, Phelps stated that "everyone knows that I can always get up for a race. They know how powerful I am at thrusting and lunging through the water. They should also know that this is the result of years of training and proper diet and is not because of some pill I took right before the race."
"My doing commercials for Viagra or Cialis would just be wrong."
In a move to revitalize his career as a commercial spokesman, however, Mark Spitz has agreed to endorse the products. An small clip from one of his commercials is quoted below:
"When I was a young athlete in Munich in 1972, I could go for hours. I was smooth on the glide and quick with the reactions. My lunges and thrusts gave pleasure to everyone who watched me and dominated everything in the room.'
"I'm a little older now, and am not as quick off the blocks. Sometimes, I need a little help to get me up and ready for the action. That's why I take..."
