1923: President speaks to Congress on radio for first time

On December 6, 1923, the presidential address was broadcast on radio for the first time as President Calvin Coolidge spoke to a joint session of Congress.

He said, "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue…."

Then he sat down to thunderous silence.
