I've always wondered exactly where we get all these 'sayings'. I mean, like 'a bird in the hand is worth two in a bush'. Does it mean that there could be a snake in the bush ready to strike those two stupid birds that are over there messing around in a bush while the one you have in your hand is safe?
I do understand where we get that 'going through hell in a hand basket'. According to what I've read, that was what the jury sentenced the wolf to, after it ate everything in Little Red Riding Hood's basket and then ate Grandma!
