I've had a great career on television with ITV, Channel 4 - oh, and a channel called 'Watch' - which nobody actually did.

People don't realise though I started out as a journalist on the east London Advertiser - reporting on cats stuck up trees in Victoria Park - and faulty traffic lights in Bethnal Green Road.

I could have been one of Britain's greatest writers - up there alongside Dickens, Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde and Julian Fellows...

Oh well, at least I've got a column in the Saturday Daily Express to be going on with.
