Nancy Grace's facial expression has often been compared to someone who has just smelled a fart. Now it seems Grace has indeed been suffering from a brain tumor that causes the perception of bad smells.
Grace's condition was caused by a rare tumor in the part of the brain where smells are processed. Patients with this type of neuroblastoma often complain of smells like sulfur, burning rubber or chemicals.
The part of the brain where Grace had the tumor is notoriously difficult territory for surgeons, but recent advances in robotic surgery have greatly improved the outlook for patients with these types of tumors.
Her publicist John Miller released a statement after the hours long operation to remove the tumor.
"Nancy Grace is now recovering from brain surgery in a Los Angeles hospital. There's a lot of bile and muscle memory keeping Nancy from losing the fart face, but doctors tell us it will be normal in time. We believe Nancy will have a rapid recovery and will resume work on her show in a few weeks."
