image for Children in Need Muppet Song sweeps the nation
Mananam

Friday eighteenth of November will live long in people's memories, for it was the night that the Muppet song, Manama nam, boo boo bi do do went viral.

"It was phenomenal," said Gary Barlow on the Sunday afterwards, "Boo boo de do do. I've been hearing people singing it everywhere I've been."

The song, started by Kermit the Frog on the night, is extremely catchy, although Miss Piggy managed to avoid joining in. Soon, the nation were joining in. This joining in continued into Saturday. As Manchester City ended Newcastle United's unbeaten run, somebody in the Etihad stadium said "Manama nam". Pretty soon, the entire stadium was joining in. The song spread from there across Manchester.

"I was in Dorking on Saturday night," said Gary Barlow. "And all around the shopping centre where I was turning on the lights I could hear the Muppet song being sung by people of all ages. When I came to do my set, I ended up doing the Muppet song too."

According to the shopping centre manager, Jan Wary, that was the best part of Barlow's set.

"It was amazing," said Wary. "The entire crowd were joining in. Gary would say 'Mananam', and hold out the mic, and the crowd would shout back 'boo boo di do do' back at him."

By lunchtime on Sunday, even people who had not seen the original Kermit performance on the Friday night were singing it. Five hundred new YouTube videos showing people recreating the Children In Need version.

"How far can the song go?" asked Gary Barlow. "It's a conundrum. Boo boo di do do."
