There were grumblings under his breath this afternoon, when a boy in Bangkok was sent to the supermarket with an extremely short shopping list - he had to buy a single onion!
The boy - me - 14, was told to fetch the onion by his mother who was in the middle of preparing macaroni for the family's dinner. The boy wasn't pleased, and muttered something under his breath that would be inappropriate to record here, and for which he would have received a clip around the lughole, had his mother heard it.
The boy trudged off towards the supermarket at Tang Hua Seng, and bought the onion, which was later chopped up and inserted into the meal.
It cost 7 baht.
