The Trapped Chilean Miners saga lumbers on with the news that, for the first time since the miners were buried alive nearly six weeks ago, a birth has been recorded amongst the tiny trapped community - a bouncing baby girl!.
Ariel Ticona, who has been trapped underground for 40 days, gave birth to the little girl yesterday, and asked his wife if it was all right to call her 'Esperanza', which in Spanish means 'hope'.
Through a hole in the tunnel wall, he asked her:
"Is it all right if I call her Esperanza, which in Spanish means 'hope'?"
Senor Ticona didn't even know he was pregnant. He laughed:
"I didn't even know I was pregnant!"
The couple already have two sons together, Pedro and Loco, neither of whom were born underground.
