The Australian Sex Party formed in 2008 is beginning to rapidly multiply, but of course, that's what Sex Party's do.
"Tea Party! What a lame name!", stated Fiona Patten who is the leader of the party and will stand for the SENATE in the next federal election.
"Or I could sit for it, whatever."
"For a long time we have seen this coming...if you'll excuse the pun. Also, the thong I'm wearing, as I'm going to need a double-wide sign any day now."
The party was officially launched on the 20th of November 2008 at Melbourne Sexpo and achieved registration as a political party from the Australian Electoral Commission in August 2009. The party had nearly 2,000 members until word got around about the wild meetings and filibusters!
"Now there are 400,0000 of us", stated registration officer, Robert Higgens.
The party contested elections for the first time at the Higgens & Bradfield by-elections in November of 2009, gaining over three percent of the primary vote in both seats, coming fourth of ten and third of twenty-two candidates respectively.
"This next time, we'll either rule or be telling the winning party what to do", laughed Higgens.
"Remember", stated Fiona Patten. "We're the Party Down Under!"
