New York- The World Health Organization (WHO) announced they would be making deep cuts in circumcision programs in Africa due to budget concerns.
"Due to falling budgets related to the economic crisis, our funding for male circumcision as part of our AIDS prevention work in Africa has been cut back," the WHO said in a press
release.
WHO director Dr. Margaret Chan said that the organization would try to cut the least amount from circumcision that they could.
"We'll try to cut the peripheral costs from the outside of the program and avoid cutting too deeply in. If we cut to much now it'll cost more in the long run to reconstruct the damage done," Chan said.
