BEIJING: So there he was. Barack Obama - POTUS, Leader of the Free world, Agent of Change, the Most powerful Man in the World cutting a sad and sorry figure as he took in the Great Wall of China- like a well-behaved poodle being taken for a walk by his handlers - the ever-present Chinese security police.
This was not a State visit based on mutual respect, honor and courtesy. This was the worst case of bitch-slapping by the Chinese for a visiting US Prez - a man who said he would never allow himself to be bamboo-zled [pun intended].
More than the shame of this sorry spectacle was the prologue - when the Chinese party's official mouthpiece published an offensive, racially- laden diatribe reminding Obama of his obligations to China as a Black Man who should not forget Slavery. What was even more surprising was the passive, non-committal response by the usually knee-jerk, over bloated US media. Too gutless to deliver a robust riposte to their Chinese bankers? Maybe the Obama-ites hadn't even perused the Chinese dailies. Shame, shame, shame.
If the same comment had been made by a US politician or commentator US networks would have turned on their heads, jabbing, foaming at the mouth and dashing off op-ed pieces. But nary a word for the Great Chinese insult. Guess it does not pay to upset one's banker!
A picture speaks a thousand words and Obama's China visit was a sorry spectacle. How on earth could such a pathetic state have befallen the US Prez. And what was that so-called "press conference" all about. Obama's handlers should have forcefully insisted on a real town-hall meeting with real people not security spies masquerading as "velly happy Chinese".
A strong US administration would not have hesitated in raising both the Tibet and human rights issues. Obama's failure to openly speak of issues 'close' to American hearts has dealt him a severe blow. When you allow people to disrespect you, you expose your weakness.
America needs to quickly wake up and see China for what it really is: an arrogant, paranoid, insecure bully. Things in China are not as great as orchestrated by the controlled Chinese media. Something is obviously wrong with China's power brokers. For all their claims of economic and military strength, this emerging 'super-power' has lately taken to behaving like a paranoid, insecure, sullen, petulant, spoiled child.
Why on earth does China heap torrents of offensive and disgusting abuse on the Dalai Lama if it is not really scared shitless about the real state of its 5 provinces that share the Tibetan culture? Such behavior comes not out of strength but out of weakness. China has much to learn about diplomatic finesse; about operating honestly. The so-called Chinese 'carrot and stick' approach is a pathetically sad overture. Warning, scolding, hectoring, lecturing and making ridiculous demands from its allies and neighbors is not going to win it any points in the international arena.
China needs to realize that while it may be able to control and 'occupy' much of its pliant-client Pakistan [under the guise of investment] it cannot similarly bully other nations. Respect needs to be earned. The enemy of your enemy can be your friend only for so long - eventually the mad dog will bite the hand that feeds it - no matter how much dog food you throw at it.
And America needs to realize that if the Chinese can stoop so low as to be offensive, rude & politically incorrect during the US Prez State visit - imagine how they treat their own people and the rest of the world.
So Mr. Obama - wake up - find your mojo and stop this nonsensical niceness that parades as your foreign policy - it only weakens you. And whenever you discuss China in public make sure you remember this mantra: Tibet; Tibet; Tibet - human-rights, human-rights, human-rights, Uighurs; Uighurs, Uighurs. That is your obligation as POTUS to the free world- not ass-kissing a nuclear-proliferating, dishonest China and it's malicious, anti-US, financially blackmailing, disintegrating sidekick Pakistan - who both have you by the you-know-what.
Be vewwy vewwy careful Mr. Pwesident - weah not just hunting wabbits heah!
