image for Google offers 'Devil's Pact' - of candy! Happy Halloween 2009!
I click for candy!

Users of the ubiquitous search engine found a treat in store for them today - and then realised a trick was involved!

Google's Halloween logo shows a Pumpkin-tastic display of ghostliness. Well, a spookily-fonted Googl… with a pumpkin for an e! How ghoulishly spooktastic is that?

But that's not the end of it. Oh no buster! For when you click on the logo do you know what happens? Candy appears! No, really!

Hey, and guess what? You can click again and even more candy appears!

And then you click again, not even daring to believe this can happen again - and Bam! More candy! Wow - whatever next?

Well what happens next is that you get Google's normal listings - complete with horrendously expensive pay-per-click adverts from struggling companies hoping to make a few bucks during Halloween.

Trouble is you're a bit pissed off now. What? No more candy? OK I know it was virtual candy - candy I could never really eat - but it was mine and I'd clicked for it. And now you're telling me that I can Buy Fancy Dress Online? Buy?

Where's my next lot of free candy? What sort of company wants me to BUY fancy dress instead of giving me free (virtual) candy?

I have to tell you the whole experience has left a rather sour taste in my mouth.

That could be because my dreams of a utopian ideal of instant confectionary has been thwarted, but it might be because the candy tasted of virtualness.

Whatever the reason - I'm certainly not going to buy a fancy dress outfit .. Oh - they have a werewolf outfit - not a rubbish one - a proper one like the old films. And it's cheaper than the Yoda one.

Actually, the Yoda one is really cool. Hey, if I got Tom to get the Stormtrooper one and Tami to get the Princess Leia one it would be awesome.

This could be the best Halloween yet!

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
