Star Trek legend William Shatner is to read the poems of Rabbie Burns in space.

Scotland's Homecoming 2009 celebrations got a boost today when it was revealed a special Rabbie Burns satellite is to be sent into orbit by NASA.

The celebrations, which celebrate the 250th anniversary of world's greatest poet's birth, have been going on throughout the year.

Shatner has recorded his versions of the poems and, as a concession, he has been given permission to change the words to Tam O' Shanter to Tam O' Shatner.

"The aliens won't know the difference because they don't speak Scots," Shatner said at a press conference held in Ayrshire, Scotland.

George Takei, who played Mr Sulu in the original Star Trek series, said: "Bollocks."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
