Emerging out of North America this week, is a terrible new form of flu that has struck fear into the hearts of lexicographers everywhere.
Beautiflu is a mutated form of the word Beautiful, and has been spotted as a misspelling on thousands of websites already, with the number increasing daily (by at least one with the writing of this article). This flu joins other similar, so called H0N0 (pronounced Oh No!), flus that have been making regular sweeping infestations across the English speaking world in recent years.
First to emerge was Careflu, but as this was non-virulent and easily dealt with by being careful, it soon died out only to be replaced by Hateflu and hurtflu. Both of these nasty misspellings are still in circulation, mainly in the North West of England. Beautiflu still has some way to go to catch up to Artflu, which has proven remarkably difficult to eradicate, even with massive government propaganda campaigns. Purposeflu has recently been downgraded, after most people failed to know what it meant anyway, and stopped using it.
Lexicographers are asking members of the public to be vigilant and wash their hands whenever coming into contact with Beautiflu, in the hope that being mindflu of the dangers, this terrible curse can be halted in its tracks.
*** BREAKING NEWS *** Yet another new strain has just been spotted, currently going by the name Mindflu, symptoms are, at this time, unknown.
