NEW DELHI - India's main opposition party leader, the 80+ years-old LK Advani has been hanging around the political scene for eons hoping to 'become PM someday'.
The octogenarian has been unable to rally the masses with his plodding, complaining old-man, ruminating style. His BJP party has no vision other than a combined hatred for Congress Party leader, 'the catholic' Sonia Gandhi. Time is running out for Advani.
Desperate times drive desperate men to desperate measures. So Advani has decided that he is to be 'India's Obama". He has just discovered the Internet and presumes to connect with the 20-something masses through SMS texting. As well he has been challenging PM Manmohan Singh to an 'American-style tv debate'.
Miffed by Singh's dismissal, he is now asking Sonia Gandhi to debate. In fact, at this stage Advani is so desperate to talk to anyone, anonymous sources in a divided BJP have stated: "Advani-ji is even ready to go on TV and debate himself. Should be very interesting as he is known to change positions with every turn of the creaking punkah".
TV networks in India are not rushing to this offer. One executive said "Mr. Advani takes hours to finish a sentence. And that is when he is demonising Mrs. Gandhi. Can you imagine how many hours it will take him to articulate even one BJP position? Thanks, but no thanks. Our new India is moving at a faster speed than his snail's pace. He is yesterday's man".
