The government of Peru has introduced strict economic sanctions against itself.
The South American republic has placed tariffs on its own steel, textiles and food, with all signs indicating that more are to follow.
In a strongly-worded speech, president Ramon Sanchez III expressed his distaste for his party's actions while in power.
"This government has routinely abused the public's trust, it has lied to the voters on a daily basis and it has unapologetically parked in many residential areas," he announced.
He went on to add, "No Peruvian will buy goods from Peru while I am in power."
Peru is expected to survive on cheap foreign imports while waiting for Sanchez III either to die or stop being so self-effacing.
