Copenhagen, Denmark (The Morning Pastry) - Those crazy Danes are at it again, this time publishing a cartoon image of the Prophet Muhammad as a football goalkeeper.
The image (seen at right) bears little actual resemblance to the founder of Islam. Instead critics suggest that it looks more like Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law, Ali.
Notwithstanding any true likeness to the prophet himself, the ensuing controversy has triggered a fresh round of protests by Muslims who are both shocked and deeply offended. In Pakistan, massive demonstrations actually led many people to express their profound dissatisfaction by entering voting stations in "free, fair and transparent" elections.
Meanwhile U.S. intelligence officials have been quietly scratching their heads for the past three weeks trying to figure out the answer to the question: "What just happened?" Evidently the CIA unilaterally tried to assassinate Abu Laith al-Libi, a high-ranking member of al-Qaeda, inside Pakistan in late January.
The underwhelming response since then (with the exception of the chorus of chirping crickets) has caused clandestine service veterans to seriously consider hiring the entire animation team from Aladdin as a way to divert attention away from their own activities.
One senior U.S. official briefed on the strike said: "Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. But if we can feed two blind squirrels with one nut -- by distracting the Jihadists and by directing hate and discontent toward the Danish -- then why not?"
