A man who chose to take a calculated risky gamble and lost, has accepted the consequences of his actions.
"It's the way the cookie crumbles. Some you win, and some you lose," said the man, adding, "there are no guarantees in this game."
It's not entirely clear what 'game' the man was referring to, but it could well be that, by using the word in the way that he did, he was trying symbolically to describe 'life', rather than vaguely hinting at a particular kind of sport.
"I put it on the line, and came up short," he said. "That's what happens sometimes."
The man, who was remarkably calm and reflective, finished by saying:
"It's just one of those things. Not everything works. This time it didn't. We live and learn from our experiences and our mistakes. Time to move on."
