A small article in a Bavarian farming journal has caused an international outcry after it was misrepresented in the New York Times yesterday.
Following legislation passed by the European Commission, farmers around Munich are switching from machine gun to the more humane gassing, in the way they slaughter livestock for market.
Heinz Snitzel commented - "Our mutton is much fresher and cleaner if we put the sheep to sleep with gas as opposed to riddling the meat with bullet holes in the old fashioned way."
However, the gas used is Nitrogen Dioxide and has the slightly macabre effect of inducing farmers near the chamber into fits of laughter. A local lady who refused to be named said it brought back awful memories.
Meanwhile Palestinians in the west bank are said to be 'battoning down the hatches' since Germany is too far for Israeli rockets.
