Hilary Clinton has blasted accusations that her ‘fling' with Cherie Blair was just an attempt to extract revenge on her husband for his infidelity. Speaking publicly for the first time the First Lady swore she would track down whoever started the rumours and beet them with a long stick. "Utterly insane" is how the 34 year old, attending a charity gala, described the claims. "what happened between Cherie and I was a silly thing, which must be left in the past, and for vermin like you to say otherwise is just to be expected," she ranted in the press tent after the show.
It is reported that the steamy affair between the two started on a visit to camp david in late October 2004. It was believed however to be short lived after the couple were caught kissing behind a portaloo by an army of Paparazzi. Sources close to the couple at the time claim that it was just a drunken mistake that the media blew out of all proportion.
Katie Laid of the Washington Post suggest that it was a little more innocent then first suggested. "the couple had just attended a White House banquet and were visiting Camp David for the weekend when they had a few too many glasses on port. It all got out of hand nut I believe by the next morning it had been laughed off. Tony and Bill thought it was quite amusing but after Bill had time to think about it he believed she may have been getting revenge for his affair with Monica Lewinski".
When the story first broke Cherie denied the accusations, but when the pictures were splashed across every paper in the country the following day she could deny it no more. Hilary went on to further fuel the fire but mention the incident in her new autobiography, ‘Close But no Cigar.' "when we kissed I knew it was a silly drunken mistake, but I feel it may have been more for her," the book goes on to say, "I feel a little uncomfortable about the whole situation. She won't stop calling me." The saga continues.
The pair remain good friends to this day. Neither of the Blair's we available to comment.
