An Illinois motorist has walked out, on the D.M.V.'S Drivers Services Facility, leaving behind his drivers license renewal.
During an interview, the motorist, who asked only to be identified as a German-American, stated that, for the twelfth time, almost in a row, Illinois D.M.V. staff changed the spelling of the man's family name. According to the motorist "D.M.V. loves to add letters, to my family name. I don't know why. I think my name is too long, already."
It would seem that, at his most recent drivers license renewal, Illinois D.M.V. CHANGED tha spelling, of the man's name, yet again.
According to the motorist, when he informed the D.M.V. clerks, of their mistake, the motorist was told that he would have to PROVE that the state was wrong. He would be required to submit:
1) His Birth Certificate
2) He would be required to pay a "correction" fee, to have the information corrected.
The motorist tells this reporter that instead of agreeing with these demands, he chose, instead, to walk out of D.M.V.
The motorist, who rode a bicycle to D.M.V., due to lack of available parking, reports that, while saddling up his bicycle, to return to his home, that a different D.M.V. worker came out, to the bicycle, and asked the motorist to return inside, with them, to address the issue.
The motorist rejected this offer, choosing to ride away, instead.
At present, Illinois D.M.V. is having to justify its actions, to a Board of Review.
In an attempt to verify the facts of this story, this reporter contacted the Social Security Administration headquarters, in Baltimore Maryland, to find out the true spelling of the motorists name.
Social Security Administration DID confirm that the motorists spelling, NOT the D.M.V.'s spelling, is the correct version of the man's name.
Now, the Illinois motorist is working on taking the State of Illinois to court, over this matter.
In reviewing Illinois, and federal, laws, this reporter has verified that any agency changing a persons name, without proper legal notice, and justification, is punishable by 5 years in prison.
Not surprisingly, Illinois D.M.V. has declined to issue any type of response, to this reporters request for a statement.
